Introduction

Hello Pod Squad! My name is Caroline Rozzo, and I am a biomedical engineering major on the pre-med track. Some of my favorite things to do are bake (especially rainbow cookies), run, go to the beach, scuba dive, crochet, and spend time with my friends (even if it's just sitting on the couch watching tik toks). I chose to take the Decoding Disney Writing 101 class because I really enjoy watching Disney movies, and I think that it will be very interesting to analyze and explore different perspectives of something as simple as a Disney movie that I watched when I was five years old. My favorite Disney movie is definitely Monster's, inc. because I used to watch it with my family over and over when I was younger; it holds a special place in my heart. I am very excited for this upcoming semester!

    Do you have many opportunities to bake here at Duke? It's one of my favorite things to do as well -- we made a lot of strawberry pecan bread last year, because going strawberry picking was one of the only things we could do with the Covid restrictions! -- but my college dorms were NOT equipped for that! :)

    That is so awesome you bake. I absolutely love to bake! Cupcakes and cookies are my favorite, especially rainbow or funfetti flavored. I can't wait to get to know you and keep going with this course!

 "And they lived happily ever after..."  This is the classic ending to fairytales, finishing off an action-filled story about a princess or other being defeating their worst challenges, but ultimately ending up in this happily ever after state. But what does this really mean? I suppose that the answer to this question depends on who you ask; a fairytale writer, a young child, a teenager, and an adult will each give you different answers. Snow White -- Happiness in a Time of Darkness

 Snow white was the first feature length film for a Disney princess, and its success was off the charts. Even though the film was released during the Great Depression , it made 8 million dollars for Disney, and showed how much people truly loved the movie. This film surpassed the profit of any other film at the time, even though it was released amidst an extreme economic downturn.  The Great Depression was a hard time for so many people, yet the release of Snow White somehow lifted the spirits of so many people while they lived in a deep hole of debt and poverty. It was like an escape, a lighthearted, enjoyable pastime to, even for just one single hour, get out of the turmoil that surrounded so many people. The release of the movie truly awoke people and showed the potential for happiness in a time of such darkness. It can even be said that The Great Depression itself is reflected in Snow White .
